March 31, 2023 Recall
What is ethylene oxide?
Ethylene oxide is a chemical intermediate used in the production of various products. It is an impurity found in certain raw materials, which should be kept as low as reasonably achievable in consumer products.
Why is there ethylene oxide in your products?
Ethylene oxide is not intentionally added. It is an impurity found in the production of certain raw materials, and which should be kept as low as reasonably achievable. Our review found that it might be present in raw materials that we used specifically to make The Laundress fabric conditioners.
What are the health risks linked to exposure to ethylene oxide?
Ethylene oxide is a chemical presumed to be carcinogenic to humans. In the event of significant and long-term exposure, it can cause adverse health effects. Its presence should be kept as low as reasonably achievable in consumer products.
If I have health concerns, what should I do?
If you have questions about your health, please contact your doctor.
Is there ethylene oxide in any other The Laundress products?
No other formulations contain the raw material that might contain this impurity.
Is there a link between the bacterial contamination and the presence of ethylene oxide in your products?
No. These are two separate and unrelated issues.
Why were these additional fabric conditioners not part of the original recall?
All fabric conditioners were already covered by market actions undertaken in December 2022. The March 31, 2023 recall formalizes the withdrawal of fabric conditioners from the market initiated on December 27th.
My product is not affected by today’s recall, can I still use it?
No. The Laundress has issued market actions affecting nearly all its products except hard good accessories. Please visit www.TheLaundress.com for more information.
Can I get a refund for the recalled products?
Consumers who have previously requested a refund for these products in response to The Laundress’s December 1, 2022 recall and December 27, 2022, company-initiated product withdrawal should NOT submit a new request. To check the list of products eligible for refund and details for requesting reimbursement, please visit www.thelaundress.com.
When will I receive a reimbursement and how?
Reimbursement methods will vary by country. For U.S. and Canada, you will receive a check in up to 8-10 weeks.
I submitted a reimbursement request already, when will I receive my reimbursement?
Upon submission of a reimbursement request, you should have received a notification that, for U.S. and Canada, you will receive a check in up to 8-10 weeks. If that has not happened, please contact customerservice@thelaundress.com or (800) 681-1915 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. EST.
If I already submitted a reimbursement request for the December 1st recall, do I have to do it again?
Reimbursement requests already submitted for the December 1st recall or December 27th market withdrawal do not need to be submitted again. Details of how to request reimbursement of additional the Laundress products not part of the recall, visit the homepage.

Is there a health risk?
The recalled products can contain bacteria, including Burkholderia cepacia complex, Klebsiella aerogenes and multiple different species of Pseudomonas, many of which are environmental organisms found widely in soil and water, and some may also be found in humans. People with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, and underlying lung conditions who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment.
